Plan your Slovenia application
MZEZ's e-Consulate pilot, then the local administrative unitSee the common routes, understand the hand-offs, then confirm every requirement on the official website.01 / ROUTES
Choose the route that matches your trip
These are starting points—not an eligibility decision. Open the official route before you apply.- ↗Schengen short-stay visa
Visits of up to 90 days in any 180-day period when Slovenia is the main destination.
- ↗National long-stay visa & residence permit
A pre-arrival application at a Slovenian mission, followed by a single residence-and-work permit decided by the local administrative unit (upravna enota).
02 / JOURNEY
What the application journey usually looks like
The exact order can vary by visa, nationality and application location. “If asked” steps are conditional.- 01Confirm the Schengen or long-stay route
The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MZEZ) is the authority named on Slovenia's official visa pages.
- 02Find the competent Slovenian mission

Slovenia's electronic visa application system is only available through selected visa centres so far, not universally.
GUIDELENS HELPS HERE - 03Use the electronic form where the mission offers it, or the printed harmonised form
Most applicants still print the harmonised Schengen form and lodge it in person at the embassy or visa centre.
- 04Submit documents & biometrics in person
A first application for a longer stay is generally lodged at a Slovenian mission before travelling to Slovenia.
IF ASKED - 05Track the decision from the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs
Decisions and further instructions come through the same mission that received the application.
- 06Register with the local administrative unit if staying long-term
After arrival, the responsible administrative unit (upravna enota) for the applicant's address decides the residence-and-work permit, since Slovenia combines the two into one document.
03 / BEFORE YOU START
Four things to know before you start
- Official authority
- The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MZEZ) publishes Slovenia's visa rules, contact details and the electronic application form page.
- Electronic form is partial
- The e-Consulate application system currently runs through selected visa centres only; elsewhere, applicants print the form and submit it in person.
- Long stay starts abroad
- A first residence-permit application for a longer stay is generally submitted at a Slovenian embassy or consulate before arrival, not inside Slovenia.
- Single permit locally
- Once in Slovenia, the local administrative unit (upravna enota) decides the case under Slovenia's single permit system, which covers residence and work together.
04 / PRACTICAL GUIDE
Slovenia visa details that differ from the regional guide
Slovenia is midway through digitising its visa process, so where you apply and which form you use still depends on the specific mission and stage of your case.- 01
The electronic form is not available everywhere yet
Slovenia's official position is that online visa applications have only been introduced through designated visa centres so far, and applicants elsewhere must still print the form and lodge it in person at an embassy or visa centre.

Use Slovenia's own harmonised C-visa form, not a generic template
Slovenia publishes its own hosted copy of the harmonised Schengen application form for use with its missions; using this exact version, rather than a generic Schengen template, avoids formatting mismatches at submission.

Longer stays end at the local administrative unit, not the ministry
Entry and residence matters inside Slovenia, including the country's single residence-and-work permit for third-country nationals, are handled locally by the administrative unit (upravna enota) responsible for the applicant's address.

Keep the Schengen rule in view
For a multi-country trip, apply to the country that is the main purpose or longest stay. Use the first country only when stays are equal. The 90 days in any 180-day period are counted across the whole Schengen area.
