Plan your Lithuania application

MIGRIS now handles both the Schengen and national visaSee the common routes, understand the hand-offs, then confirm every requirement on the official website.

01 / ROUTES

Choose the route that matches your trip

These are starting points—not an eligibility decision. Open the official route before you apply.
  • ↗
    Short-stay Schengen visa

Visits of up to 90 days in any 180-day period when Lithuania is the main destination.

  • ↗
    National long-stay visa (D)

Work, study, family or business stays over 90 days, decided by the Migration Department.

02 / JOURNEY

What the application journey usually looks like

The exact order can vary by visa, nationality and application location. “If asked” steps are conditional.
  1. 01
Choose the Schengen or D-visa route

Lithuania's Migration Department is the competent authority for both the national D visa and the temporary residence permit that can follow it.

  2. 02
    Apply through MIGRIS online

Since the EPM portal closed, Schengen and national visa applications are filled out through the Migration Information System, MIGRIS, at migracija.lt.

  3. 03
    Upload the digital document copies

The national-visa application requires digital copies of the supporting documents to be attached online before the in-person step.

  4. 04
Book the mission or provider visit

Book the appointment at a Lithuanian embassy, consulate or the external service provider shown in MIGRIS.

    IF ASKED
  5. 05
    Give biometrics in person

Biometric data and original documents must be submitted in person within four months of the online application.

  6. 06
    Track the Migration Department decision

The Migration Department decides a national visa application within 15 calendar days, extendable to 30 in individual cases.

03 / BEFORE YOU START

Four things to know before you start

Official starting point
MIGRIS (migracija.lt), run by the Migration Department, is now the single online system for both Schengen and national visa applications.
Short or long stay
Up to 90 days in 180 days uses the Schengen route; work, study, family or business stays beyond that use the national D visa.
Decision timeline
A national visa decision is made within 15 calendar days of the request, extendable to 30 days in individual cases; the review fee is €140.
In-person window
After the online MIGRIS application, biometrics and original documents must be submitted in person within four months.

04 / PRACTICAL GUIDE

Lithuania visa details that differ from the regional guide

Lithuania consolidated its visa systems into MIGRIS, and the same Migration Department that decides the national visa also handles the residence permit that follows it.
  1. 01

EPM is retired — MIGRIS is now the only portal

The former EPM online form was closed, and both Schengen and national visa applications are filled out through the Migration Information System (MIGRIS) at migracija.lt.

  2. 02

The national visa has a fixed decision window and fee

A national D-visa request is decided within 15 calendar days, extendable to 30 in individual cases, and carries a €140 review fee — plan around this rather than a Schengen-style timeline.

  3. 03

Book biometrics within four months of applying online

Submitting the MIGRIS application online does not complete the process; biometric data and original documents must be given in person within four months, or the file lapses.

Keep the Schengen rule in view

For a multi-country trip, apply to the country that is the main purpose or longest stay. Use the first country only when stays are equal. The 90 days in any 180-day period are counted across the whole Schengen area.
